Nova Scotia’s dynamic oceanic history comes to life on the Dartmouth waterfront. Take a ride on North America’s oldest saltwater ferry or enjoy engaging murals that capture the heart of the community. The Dartmouth waterfront provides an array of cultural and historic experiences and hosts gatherings and events of all sizes.
Our sailing season generally runs from May to October. We are pleased to partner with the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) on a pilot project.
Local and visiting boaters can now enjoy 90 feet of floating dock and a free daytime berthing program at Alderney Wharf on the Dartmouth waterfront.
Develop Nova Scotia Marine Services currently operate high-quality recreational and commercial berths on the Halifax waterfront (a certified Blue Flag Marina meeting high international criteria), as well as the Bedford and Lunenburg waterfronts plus the COVE marine terminal on the Dartmouth waterfront.
Through this partnership, we will extend our established marine services, practices, and procedures to the municipally-owned floating docks and provide waterside operations at the pier.
More than 1500 registered local recreational boaters enjoy free access to the waterfronts through a registered free daytime berthing program. This program creates operational efficiencies and helps ensure the safe and secure use of the property while providing boaters with enhanced access to downtown and waterfront businesses. In recent years, the program has expanded to include McNabs Island and Purdy’s Wharf.
In addition, we manage a Visiting Ship Program that provides complimentary berthage for vessels of public interest which includes tall ships, research vessels, and military ships as examples. In return for free berthage, the vessel must offer a level of public engagement to provide opportunities to learn about the ship.
Currently, we have a successful shared property maintenance agreement with HRM which provides more efficient and effective delivery of property services and experiences to the community and visitor.
The marina season generally runs until the end of October. Overnight options are also available.
