Splash of Colour: Aug 22, 2020 Copy

Get together with family and friends and get outside this weekend for our 2020 edition of ‘Splash of Colour’! Use this handy map to embark on your self-guided adventure as you meander and stroll from end to end of the 4km Halifax boardwalk. Soak in live mural artwork underway, bringing beauty and local artwork to the waterfront. Here are 18 new and existing works for you to check out on August 22, and everyday, as you explore the Halifax waterfront arriving by boat, or land.
*Remember to practice physical distancing, maintaining 6ft apart, while enjoying the waterfront within your family bubbles.

  1. Salt Yard Too Mural
    Making a splash this year is a bright and cheerful mural nestled within the new for 2020 expanded picnic patio area of the Salt Yard, Salt Yard Too!

  2. The Octopusse Family has grown!
    You may have already discovered our bright,
    cheerful and colourful family of Octopusse  ho have came ashore last year, now you need to look for the newest additions! ‘Mom’ is in the Salt Yard Too, with some of her little ones nearby, but be sure to look for the newest one near the Nova Scotia Visitor Information Centre. There are 6 to find along the way – 7 if you include ‘Mom’, can you find them all?

  3. Planter Painting: Outdoor Gallery in progress!
    Saturday August 22, 1 – 4pm, Salt Yard Too

    Curated by Youth Art Connection, we invite you meet and see works of art in progress by a collection of up and coming local artists. Throughout the afternoon, they’ll be painting works that will proudly displayed on the planters in and around Salt Yard Too in our Outdoor Gallery, adding a unique splash of colour to the waterfront!

  4. MacPhee Centre Family Bubble ‘Chalk-it-up’ Fun Day
    Saturday August 22, 1 – 4pm
    Salt Yard Too
    Mom and Dad, bring the kids to Salt Yard Too to get ‘chalky’! Guided by the team from MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning, bring your family down to create with chalk as they host our Family Bubble Chart Art Fun Day, adding a ‘Splash of Colour’ to the Halifax waterfront. Bubble ‘frames’ will be created, take-home chalk provided, physically distanced, for families to add their works of art.

  5. “Sea Troll” Mural adorns I Heart Bikes
    A reflection of our natural heritage and proximity to the sea, explore your surroundings through this unique and magical depiction of sea creatures in this new addition to the Gritty to Pretty collection, a project by the Halifax Downtown Business Commission.

  6. Playground Mural
    When you visit the ‘Submarine’ playground along the waterfront, be sure to take a peek around the backside to see the ocean unfold before your very eyes. Originally created by muralist Christian Toth, he’ll be onsite Aug 21-23 to refresh and add some new sea critters to this beloved mural.

    There’s a trio of Chalkboards along the Halifax waterfront waiting for you to discover. Posing a series of questions to inspire your imagination, we invite you to chalk-up your thoughts and ideas!
